Collaborative Map Activities allow residents to place pins on an interactive map, categorize their feedback, answer follow-up questions, and view and endorse submissions from other community members. This article explains how to create a new Collaborative Map Activity and configure its map question.

Creating the Activity

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Zencity.
  2. Navigate to the Ask module and click on the Activities listing screen.
  3. Click the 'Create New Activity' button in the top right corner.
  4. Under the 'Collaborative Activity' heading, select 'Map Activity'.
  5. Associate it to a project, enter a name for your activity, and click 'Next'.
  6. You will be redirected to the Activity Builder where you can configure your activity.

Understanding the Page Structure

A Collaborative Map Activity has a fixed page structure with both editable and locked pages:

  • Introduction page (I): Optional. Can be toggled on or off but cannot be deleted or moved. When enabled, you can add any content type to introduce the activity.
  • Map page (M): Required and locked. Contains only the map question. Cannot be deleted or moved.
  • Follow-Up pages: Optional. You can add one or more pages with any combination of questions and content types.
  • Completion page: Required and locked. Cannot be deleted or moved.
  • Teaser page: Required and locked. Cannot be deleted or moved.

Configuring the Map Question

The Map question sits on the locked Map page and controls how residents place pins. To configure it:

  1. Select the Map page (M) from the page sidebar on the left.
  2. Enter your question text in the 'Question' field.
  3. Adjust the map to set the default center and zoom level. Participants will see this view when they open the activity.
  4. Maps default to 'Single Pin' (one pin per resident). To allow multiple submissions, enable the Multiple Submissions toggle.
  5. If you enabled Multiple Submissions, choose the maximum number of pins per resident from the dropdown menu (1-10).
  6. Configure your pin categories. See 'Setting Up Pin Categories for C
    ollaborative Mapping' for details.
  7. To add a map layer, click 'Add Map Layer'. See 'Adding Map Layers' for details.
  8. To restrict pin placement to a specific area, check 'Limit pin placement to inside polygons'.

Note: Comments on pins are not supported in Collaborative Map Activities. Follow-up questions on subsequent pages serve this purpose instead.
