In-Depth Guide
Access the Questionnaire Builder
Start by navigating to the Engage section and locating your engagement questionnaire on the Activities listing screen. Click "Edit" to open the Questionnaire Builder where you can navigate between and manage multiple pages.
Primary Navigation: Page Sidebar
The most consistent navigation method across both view modes is the numbered page sidebar on the left side of the Questionnaire Builder.
Page tabs display: Each page appears as a numbered tab (1, 2, 3, etc.) with the page title underneath (e.g., "UNTITLED PAGE" for new pages).
Click to navigate: Click any numbered tab to jump directly to that page. The behavior depends on your current view mode:
- Single page view: Loads that page's content exclusively in the editing area
- Multi page view: Scrolls to that page's section within the continuous view
Visual feedback: The currently selected or visible page is highlighted in the sidebar, helping you track your location within the questionnaire.
Sequential Navigation: Next Button
When working in multi page view, you'll see a "Next" button at the bottom of each page section.
Function: Click "Next" to advance to the immediately following page in the sequence.
Smooth transitions: The interface scrolls smoothly to the next page section, maintaining context and flow.
End behavior: The "Next" button on the final page may be disabled or lead to other questionnaire sections like Jump Logic.
Continuous Navigation: Scrolling (Multi Page View Only)
Multi page view enables free-form navigation through your entire questionnaire.
Natural scrolling: Use your mouse wheel, trackpad, or scroll bar to move up and down through all pages continuously.
Page boundaries: Visual separators help you identify where one page ends and another begins.
Content overview: See multiple pages simultaneously to assess flow and transitions between sections.
Navigation Based on View Mode
Single Page View Navigation:
- Primary method: Page sidebar tabs
- Sequential option: "Next" button advances to next page and loads its content
- Focus benefit: Concentrated editing on one page at a time
- Speed: Fast page switching for targeted edits
Multi Page View Navigation:
- Multiple methods: Page sidebar, "Next" button, or continuous scrolling
- Overview benefit: See relationships between pages
- Flexibility: Jump to any section quickly or browse through all content
- Context: Maintain awareness of surrounding content while editing
Page Identification and Organization
Page numbering: Pages automatically number in sequence (1, 2, 3, etc.) regardless of how you navigate between them.
Page titles: Each page displays its title under the number in the sidebar. Update from default "UNTITLED PAGE" to descriptive names for easier navigation.
Page indicators: Visual cues help you understand your current location and available navigation options at any time.
Efficient Navigation Tips
Use descriptive titles: Name your pages clearly to make sidebar navigation more intuitive and efficient.
Plan navigation routes: Before making extensive edits, plan which pages you need to visit to minimize unnecessary back-and-forth movement.
Methodology
Page navigation is designed to support different editing workflows and preferences:
- Navigation methods preserve context - your place in the questionnaire is maintained across different approaches
- View mode integration - navigation works consistently whether you're in single page or multi page view
- Content accessibility - all questionnaire content remains reachable through multiple navigation paths
- Editing continuity - you can edit content immediately after navigating to any page
The navigation system prioritizes flexibility and efficiency, allowing you to choose the method that best fits your current editing task.
Edge Cases and Considerations
Single page questionnaires: Navigation controls are minimal or hidden when your questionnaire contains only one page.
Long page content: In single page view, you may need to scroll within a page to see all content, separate from page-to-page navigation.
