In-Depth Guide

Access the Questionnaire Builder

Begin by navigating to the Engage section and locating your engagement questionnaire on the Activities listing screen. Click "Edit" to open the Questionnaire Builder where you can modify and duplicate questionnaire elements.

Select the Element to Duplicate

Click on any question or content block within your questionnaire that you want to copy. When selected, a toolbar will appear above the element containing various editing options.

Use the Duplicate Function

In the toolbar that appears above your selected element, locate and click the duplicate icon (copy symbol). This immediately creates an exact copy of the selected element.

Understanding Duplication Behavior

When you duplicate an element:

  • Positioning: The duplicated element appears directly below the original element
  • Content preservation: All question text, answer options, formatting, and settings are copied exactly
  • Independent editing: The duplicate becomes a separate element that can be modified without affecting the original

Common Use Cases for Duplication

Similar question variations: Create multiple questions with the same structure but different topics or time periods.

A/B testing preparation: Duplicate questions to test different wording or answer option sets before finalizing your questionnaire.

Consistent formatting: Use an existing well-formatted question as a template for new questions with similar structure.

Multi-part question series: Build a series of related questions that share the same answer scale or format.

Modifying Duplicated Elements

After duplication, you can immediately edit the copied element:

  1. Click on the duplicated question or content block
  2. Edit the question text, answer options, or any other properties
  3. Use other toolbar functions like reordering to position the duplicate where needed

Duplicating Different Element Types

The duplicate function works across all questionnaire elements:

  • Single Select questions: Copies question text, all answer options, and "Other" field settings
  • Multiple Select questions: Preserves all choices and selection limits
  • Text Input questions: Maintains character limits and validation rules
  • Content blocks: Duplicates text formatting, images, and layout
  • Contact fields: Copies field type and validation requirements

Edge Cases and Considerations

Conditional logic: If the original question has conditional logic or branching, the duplicate will not automatically inherit these connections. You'll need to set up logic for the duplicated question separately.

Required field settings: Duplicated questions maintain the same required/optional status as the original. Adjust this setting if needed for your questionnaire flow.

Page breaks: Duplicated elements appear on the same page as the original. Use reordering tools if you need to move the duplicate to a different page or section.
