In-Depth Guide

Adding a New Image Gallery

Access the Questionnaire Builder Navigate to the Engage section and go to the Activities listing screen. Find your engagement questionnaire and select "Edit" to open the Questionnaire Builder interface.

Add the Image Gallery Element From the Content sidebar on the right, locate "Image Gallery" under the "MEDIA" section. Drag the Image Gallery element and drop it into your questionnaire at the desired position.

The questionnaire builder will display a drop zone where you can position your new gallery. Release the Image Gallery element when the drop zone appears in your preferred location.

Configure Gallery Settings Once you drop the Image Gallery element into your questionnaire, the configuration modal automatically opens. Configure the gallery content and display options.

Add Block Heading (Optional) Use the Block Heading field to provide a title or description for your image gallery. This heading appears above the gallery and can explain what the images show, provide context, or serve as a section divider.

Upload Images In the "Image" section, upload the collection of images for your gallery:

  • Upload Methods: Drag and drop image files directly into the upload area or click to browse and select multiple files
  • File Requirements:
    • Supported formats: .jpg or .png only
    • Maximum file size: 10MB per image
    • Recommended: High-quality images that display clearly at various screen sizes and maintain visual consistency across the collection

Upload multiple images to create your gallery collection. Each uploaded image becomes part of the interactive gallery display.

Configure Display Settings In the "Settings" section, customize how the gallery appears and functions:

Format Options:

  • Slideshow: Displays images one at a time with navigation controls, creating a focused viewing experience where respondents can browse through images sequentially
  • Grid: Shows multiple image thumbnails simultaneously in a grid layout, allowing respondents to see all images at once and click to view larger versions

Size Options:

  • Sm (Small): Compact gallery display suitable for supplementary visual content or inline galleries
  • Md (Medium): Standard gallery size appropriate for most content galleries and visual examples
  • Lg (Large): Full-width or prominent gallery display for featured image collections or detailed visual presentations

Save Your Configuration After configuring the heading, uploading your images, and selecting format and size options, click "Save" to apply your changes. The modal will close and you'll see an in-builder preview of your image gallery within the questionnaire.

Editing Existing Image Galleries

Locate and Select the Gallery In the Questionnaire Builder, find the image gallery you want to modify. Click on the edit icon on the gallery block to open the configuration modal and access all editing options.

Modify Gallery Content Update the block heading, add or remove images, or adjust the display format and size as needed. Click "Save" to apply your changes and close the configuration modal. Once saved, you'll see an in-builder preview of your updated gallery.

Manage Gallery Images Add new images to expand the collection, remove images that are no longer relevant, or replace existing images with updated versions. Ensure all images maintain visual consistency and are appropriate for the gallery's purpose.

Adjust Display Settings Switch between slideshow and grid formats based on your content goals, or modify the size setting based on the gallery's importance and role within the questionnaire flow.

Reorder Galleries Reposition image galleries within your questionnaire flow using two methods:

  • Drag-and-drop: Click and hold the gallery block, then drag it to a new position. The questionnaire will show drop zones indicating valid placement locations.
  • Toolbar: Use the reordering options available in the gallery's toolbar for precise positioning.

Remove Galleries To delete an image gallery, use the delete option in the gallery's toolbar. The gallery will be removed immediately without a confirmation prompt.

Gallery Design Best Practices

Curate Consistent Collections Select images that work well together in terms of quality, style, lighting, and subject matter. Consistent visual presentation enhances the gallery's professional appearance and effectiveness.

Choose Appropriate Format Use slideshow format when you want to focus attention on individual images or tell a sequential story. Use grid format when you want to show variety and allow quick comparison across multiple images.

Optimize Image Quality Ensure all images are high-resolution and appropriately sized for gallery display. Poor quality images detract from the overall gallery experience and municipal communication credibility.

Provide Meaningful Context Use block headings to explain what the gallery shows, especially for technical content, progress updates, or concepts that may require interpretation.

Plan Gallery Size Strategically Choose gallery sizes that complement surrounding content and support your communication goals without overwhelming other questionnaire elements.

Methodology

Gallery Display Processing Image galleries are processed to provide optimal viewing experiences across both slideshow and grid formats. The system handles different image dimensions and aspect ratios for consistent presentation within the gallery interface.

Interactive Navigation Slideshow galleries include navigation controls that allow respondents to browse through images at their own pace. Grid galleries provide click-to-expand functionality for detailed image viewing.

Format Rendering The two format options (Slideshow, Grid) adapt to different screen sizes while maintaining usability. Format selection affects both the visual presentation and interaction patterns of the gallery.

Size and Layout Integration Gallery size settings affect the overall visual prominence and space allocation within the questionnaire layout, while maintaining aspect ratios and image quality.

Language Support Image gallery elements support multi-language engagement questionnaires when configured. Block headings are translated while image content remains universal across language versions.

Edge Cases, Exceptions & Known Issues

Drag and Drop Functionality

  • Galleries must be dropped in valid drop zones within the questionnaire area
  • Dropping galleries outside the builder area will not add them to your questionnaire

Image Upload Limitations

  • Only .jpg and .png formats are supported; other image formats will be rejected
  • Files exceeding 10MB will not upload and will display an error message
  • Corrupted or invalid image files may fail to upload or display properly

Gallery Performance Considerations

  • Multiple image galleries in a single questionnaire can impact overall performance

Size Setting Impact

  • Very large galleries may overwhelm surrounding questionnaire content
  • Small galleries with detailed images may not provide sufficient visual information
