Customising the slug or URL of a specific page allows you to control how residents navigate your content. User-friendly URLs are important to help visitors understand your page structure and navigate your engagement website.
Consider the following when selecting a URL:
- Keep it in plain English and descriptive of the page contents, avoid acronyms
- Separate words by a hypen (-) for easy reading
- Avoid excessively long URLs
- Ensure it's unique, no duplicate URLs are permitted
- If you're adding a lot of pages, plan out your URLs before you start making edits.
By keeping your URL naming user friendly and logically structured, you'll also aid discovery by search engines and AI-powered large language models, which is critical to help discovery (search engine optiisation and generative engine optimisation) of your pages.
First of all, navigate to Content Pages.
Find your page by first selecting from the following tabs: Projects, Updates, Hubs, Home. Once you've identified your page, click on it or select Edit from the three dots sub menu.
Once you've clicked through to the Page Builder screen, select the Settings tab.
You'll then be able to type your desired URL. Don't forget to select 'Save' at the bottom of the page. And then you can Publish or Republish the page in the top right of the screen.
You'll see that the first half of the URL is defaulted, depending on the page type:
- Projects default to /projects/
- Updates default to /updates/
- Hubs default to /pages/
- Home is fixed and cannot be edited, it simply contains the name of your organisation.
