At ZenCity, our goal is to be a “one-stop-shop” for all of the various channels where residents share their feedback about the city. Therefore, we’ve been working hard to upgrade our access to information from a wide variety of Local Media data sources. Today, we’re happy to announce the new and improved “Local Media” data source type - now with much more access, and new summary features! This includes:
More local media data - we now have increased access to a variety of local news channels, through a new set of online tools that cover a very wide variety of news outlets.
It’s now easier than ever to filter by Local Media - we’ve added a new filter to help you easily see just the media mentions across the web.
Notifications - We’ve added a new Local Media Digest to follow media mentions about your city on a daily basis, which you can get by email. Contact your customer success manager to sign up.
Track your media presence - an Interaction Count that displays Local Media interactions
Google News API
We are now aggregating data from an even wider variety of news sites thanks to a new integration with a set of online news APIs including the Google News API. This means that if a story in your city makes local or national press, ZenCity will make sure you don’t miss a beat.
For example, one of our cities had an emergency situation which made national headlines. Some of the initial reports caused residents to misunderstand the situation and spread unnecessary concern. City officials were able to follow the story on ZenCity, seeing all news reports from local and national sources and resident feedback in one place, making it easy to decide if and when to respond and if there is a needs to stop the spread of misinformation.
The Google News API will collect articles from a wider variety of sources, bringing all media mentions and feedback into one place giving users a holistic view of what’s going on in their city.
Filter by Local Media
It’s now easier than ever to filter by Local News and find the information you’re looking for. We know that different departments in the city have different needs, and we’re building out the ZenCity tool to meet all of these needs. For example, while some users are more focused on social media, others focus more on traditional media, or need to be able to differentiate between the two.
You can now filter specifically by “Local Media” and see all news items and their comments sections in one place.
You also have the option of filtering by specific news sources within the Local Media.
Local Media Digest

The interaction count now reflects the number of Local Media interactions separately, making it easier to understand the breakdown of data source types and follow your city’s media footprint.
